Kalepo is a family-owned and run camp in the heart of Samburuland, Northern Kenya. We sit on 450,000 acres of unfenced wilderness at the foot of the Mathews Mountains, but what brings people back is not the landscape. It’s the Samburu people who have called this land home for centuries, and the staff who welcome you as if Kalepo were their own.

The Samburu are known as the Butterfly people by neighbouring warrior tribes, named for the vivid colours they wear and the flamboyant adornments that mark every stage of life. But the name runs deeper than dress. The Samburu are a people in constant transformation, moving from boyhood to warrior to junior elder to elder, each chapter earned, each one celebrated. To come to Kalepo is to witness that world in motion.
